St. James' Parish

Since there were few Catholics in the Chamberlain area in the late 1800's, services were conducted only when an occasional missionary traveled through the territory. Mitchell, White Lake and Kimball began serving their needs when the Catholic population grew.

St. James Parish was incorporated on November 4, 1891, with Bishop Martin Marty, James D. Farrell and George H. King as incorporators.
St. James Church was built in 1903 on its present site of land which was donated by C.D. Tidrick. The church was dedicated by Bishop O'Gorman.
In 1921, St. James became its own parish.
