Pastorate of the Diocese of Sioux Falls
St. Mary's Parish
A Catholic congregation was organized in Stickney in 1908 and until October 1909, where then Fr. Kelly of Plankinton served the people. During that time, a small church was built and dedicated in August
of 1910.
In October 1909, St. Mary's received their first resident pastor, Fr. Unger. He completed the residence in December 1911. Later, the church was enlarged and many improvements were made between 1918-1926. From 1937-1940, Stickney's parish became a mission church under the pastor of St. John's in Plankinton. In the 1980's, the parish became united with Armour, instead of Plankinton. In the mid-1990's, a new parish hall was built and how the building is known to its parishioners today.
